all right here's your check yeah go
ahead and put all of it on this card
right here thank you I'm sorry sir it
said declined the client you said that
that can't be right can you do me a
favor just go ahead and run that again
for me uh okay I'll I'll try probably
she shouldn't even like know how to
swipe the card right come on sir it's
declined yeah you put it on this card
instead this one here that has a metal
card always works always it was declined
try this one declined uh this one
um this one it was declined okay I'm
just gonna uh run to my car to get some
as if I own a car or have any cash at
a dumb skit for YouTube but if we rewind
just a few years like I basically was
broke I'm going to show you a heavily
redacted tax return from the year 2016
and you can see my income for that year
was twenty thousand dollars and if we
fast forward just four years from 2016
to 2020 I had completely turned my
finances around and the different
generated over one million dollars in
2020 over 2 million dollars in 2021 and
this year we have also built on that and
look I'm not saying these things to
bragger to impress anyone I'm saying
them because today I want to give you a
battle tested realistic game plan to
reaching one million dollars per year
divided by 12 equals around 83 000 in
some change that is the amount of money
you have to make each month to get to 1
million per year and that number it can
seem very intimidating right it can seem
almost impossible even where I'm at
financially now it just it seems like a
lot of money and that's why I think
mentally it's a lot better to focus on
getting to ten thousand per month that
number is a lot more realistic sure it
still may seem a bit lofty right now but
it's it's achievable you can get there
now obviously 10K over 12 months only
gets you to 120k per year but that
that's still a great starting point now
something else to keep in mind is that
there's a lot of careers that will get
you past the 120k per year you know
there's a lot of careers that will get
you up to like 200 to 300K per year if
you're working in finance in medicine or
maybe as a business consultant but there
are very very very few jobs you'll get
working for someone else that are going
to get you above 300K per year like
unless you're basically a corporate
officer like this CEO of a bigger
company you're not going to get above
300K but if you can build your own
business or you can build an income
stream of 10K per month well it's very
realistic now to level up the marketing
you're doing maybe do some more paid
advertising and get that up to 20K or
30k or maybe you introduce another
income stream of 10K and you start
stacking these on top of each other that
is how you're going to get from 10K to
that 83k number now I want to give an
important warning before we hop into the
actual game plan because there's
something I left out about 2016 when I
made only 20K that year and that is that
the previous couple years I was working
as a software engineer with a salary of
around 60 000 that allowed me to save up
some money so that even though I had a
couple rough years where my bank account
balances went down I wasn't worried
about ending up on the streets homeless
I had some padding the point is that
when you start trying to make your own
money or start your own business there's
going to be a period where you're
figuring it out you're not just gonna
start making a bunch of money right away
and that's why I'd recommend having at
least six months but ideally 12 months
or more of your living expenses saved up
so it's taking a quick stop to check in
on the progress of the The Villa we're
building here unfortunately not too much
progress to update yalon but we we're we
still come like four times a week just
to just to swing by and make sure
nothing cool is happening yet a bit of
an addiction really so check it out
there's unlimited different business
models you could choose to start but
basically all of them are going to fall
into one of three buckets either
physical products digital products or
services so physical products is the one
that everyone thinks seems cool right
everybody wants to start their own
clothing brand and if I had to summarize
my experience since 2018 when we started
Edge lifestyle clothing into one word it
investing a bunch of new money for new
inventory and then that inventory never
even gets to you for months later and
that's the only point at which you can
sell it and turn a profit we've had
hundreds of thousands of dollars of
inventory lost before during some point
in the supply chain you have to either
rent out your own warehouse space and
pay your own employees to fulfill the
orders or you can do what we do and use
a 3pl which is basically you're you know
paying a warehouse that also Services
several other brands but every time they
ship an order we pay them for every bin
of our Goods that they're storing we pay
them for that you have to deal with
returns and exchanges and the more you
scale and the more you grow the more of
these issues that you run into and
that's why I would generally not advise
getting into physical products it's
going to take a lot of capital and
investment up front unless you do what I
did with Edge which is we started back
in 2018 the first order was like 200
t-shirts 200 tank tops and then you know
from there we like slowly slowly grew
little by little by little by little it
was not a fast process seriously guys
I'm gonna release the dopest clothing
that the internet that the world has
seen right now I'm wearing the sample of
our first t-shirt here's a foundation
t-shirt now digital products can
definitely make more sense because with
this you're investing all of the time
and energy up front to create the
product but then when you sell it
someone just gets like a login usually
or in my case you know we did the
beastly app I invested 50k to develop
that app because I wanted to have
functionality that other apps don't have
so I hired a custom development firm out
of Germany and this can work and be a
lot more profitable than the physical
products because you're not dealing with
all of these Logistics all the time so
for you this might look like creating an
online course based on your expertise
you know I could potentially do a course
on you know how to build a YouTube
channel from scratch the challenge is
going to be how are you marketing this
thing how are you getting new people in
the door because if you're selling your
course for let's say a hundred dollars
in order to get to 10K a month that
means you have to sell a hundred
customers new every month so either you
need to build your own following on
social media to sell it to or you have
to figure out paid ads or you have to
pay other influencers to Market it for
you and that's why I think for most
people it's going to make the most sense
it's going to be the most profitable and
it's going to be the most quickly
profitable to go with the service based
business but in order to do this you're
going to need to develop a skill feel
that other businesses or people are
going to want to pay you for and that's
why I decided to partner with skillshare
to be the sponsor of today's video ready
check it out skillshare is basically
this massive online learning platform
that has thousands and thousands of
classes in different areas like online
marketing photography videography
entrepreneurship and these classes can
help you not only learn new skills but
also hone skills and level up skills
that you're already working on to help
you land that new career or launch your
first business for example I just found
this new course commercial filmmaking
everything you need to know to write
great video advertisements by Stephen
Engel and there's going to be a lot of
crucial information in here if you're
someone who's trying to build a business
off your videography skills or another
one I found is scale your business with
Facebook ads learning from spending 150
million dollars from Jack Paxton if
you're someone who wants to start a
information is gold it doesn't matter
what skill you're trying to master
skillshare is going to give you the
resources you need to get it done and
because they're sponsoring today's video
the first 1000 of my subscribers who
click that personally description are
going to get a one month free trial to
opportunity click that link try it out
got Haynes bro workout complete now I
want to talk about what I believe to be
the top service based businesses to
start in 2022 and 2023 and I'm not just
pulling these things out of my ass like
these are things that I actively pay
people and agencies to do for Edge for
gains club for all of my different
businesses each month and there's going
to be other businesses looking to grow
looking for help with these same things
so option number one is going to be
managing the paid advertising for a
business or a brand and usually this
means Facebook and Instagram ads but can
also mean Google ads Tick Tock ads Etc I
can tell you as a business owner that in
the past I tried to figure it out on my
own didn't see that great results I
tried hiring an employee you know
bringing it in-house letting them try
and work on it that didn't work that
well either what's worked a lot better
is finding an agency that specializes is
in this and actually is implementing
different strategies to make sure we're
getting the best return on the money
we're spending towards our advertising
number two is creating content for
businesses if a business wants to run
ads and needs some content to use for
the ads they need content to post
organically to their Instagram page for
example and if you're someone who's good
with photo or video you can come to an
agreement with a brand that you're going
to provide them X number of content
pieces each month for a set fee with
Edge for example Julie and I create a
lot of the content ourselves but I also
pay some videographers and photographers
in Houston to help us create additional
content with different models number
three is email marketing when you're
running a business the hardest thing is
usually acquiring new customers but then
on the back end once you have a customer
if you have strong email marketing you
can do a lot to bring those customers
back for repeated purchases and again
this is something I used to do myself in
the early stages of the businesses but
it pays it literally makes sense for you
to pay someone now to not only you know
write the copy for those emails but also
to do the graphic design for those
emails and to make sure they're going
out on a consistent basis especially
during busy times of the year like last
week with Black Friday sale four is web
web design with the exception of edge
because that's a website that I've just
you know pieced together and designed
myself year by year by year for the rest
of my businesses I have hired people to
design the websites if you're going to
get into this I would definitely
specialize in creating high quality
Shopify stores for people because most
people are building their e-commerce
platforms on Shopify the challenge with
this one is that unlike the others once
you've built a store for someone there's
not really much of a need for them to be
paying you every single month so there's
going to be a lot more of like a need
for you to constantly be finding new
customers and new clients new businesses
to work with and number five would be
social media management which would
usually mean managing a Brand's
Instagram page not just posting content
but also answering questions in the
comments the DMS reposting stories
they're tagged in and just thinking of
creative strategies to generate more
traffic to the Brand's page again with
Edge this is something that we used to
do ourselves but now we pay someone to
handle that for us and for all of these
things it's going to be normal to charge
somewhere in the range of 2000 to 5 000
per month so let's say you're charging 3
000 you basically just need three
clients in order to get to that 10K per
month Mark and obviously if you can
bring on more and more clients that
monthly income is going to stack very
quickly now one thing you got to realize
is as a business owner I regularly get
10 to 20 emails per day with people
offering to take care of these things
for me so most business owners have
developed kind of like a a bit Shield
that's not the right word but some type
of like force field where it seems like
all of these people reaching out are
spam you need to learn how to stand out
so here's my tip that first Outreach
email should never look like it was copy
and pasted what's going to work a lot
better if there's not that much text but
you have some images in there that are
clearly like a screenshot of the
person's page maybe with some arrows or
graphics on there that immediately make
them think wait hold up what if I'm
doing something wrong I'd also honestly
offer you in the first month for free
just to prove you can deliver some type
of results and get your foot in the door
if you're not sure how to find new
businesses to reach out to I think
probably the easiest way is going to be
scrolling through Instagram or searching
for like hashtags on Instagram then
finding the business email through there
anyway y'all I know there was a lot of
different information but I hope that
that gives you some ideas some immediate
next steps you can take to get started
if you are someone who's looking to
start your own business start making
money for yourself start achieving that
